Hey Paul,
Here's a couple of links.

The first looks to be the most promising. A very simple circuit that looks
like it might be an interesting jumping off point for some type of
switching/selecting/waveshaping module. The second link looks like it's a
circuit that compares in input freq to an internal filter center freq.
Interesting, but I like the first one better.
Let us know if you come up with something neat (and can sell us circuit
boards, parts kits and front panels real cheap). ;)
And just for the heck of it, here's a tuner and freq counter link that
looked interesting. Tim R, you might want to check this out.
