My kids (1 and 3) love keyboards and knobs and switches and buttons of
all kinds. I let them play with my Pro-One and the 1 year old (who is
quite musical, my wife says she can't tell the difference between his
playing the Pro-One and mine, oh wait, what does she really mean by
that?) likes the gate LED. My 3 year old loves to flip the tabs on my
mom's organ. So if I were doing a synth for my kids it would have
plenty of those things. They also seem to prefer polyphonic
keyboards. I think the toy companies have figured all of this out
long ago.

Tom.
