Thanks!  I had forgotten that that thread was off list.

I used your scheme in my dial-a-tempco converter:

Because of the extra inversion, the circuit is a bit different from yours, 
but same principle.  Also, I used a diode-connected transistor (on the same 
chip as the converter) instead of a separate diode.

I'll say it again, folks:  Rene's method is the way to go!
