heys,

6x86 133mhz really isnt that slow...

the thing that is the problem is the harddisk speed, but then your only
going to be dealing with two channels of audio.

when i was using a machine of that sort of speed, i used to use one of the
earlier versoins of cooledit, which also has the advantage that you can use
it for some processing after you have the raw data on the machine.

i may be able to find a copy of cooledit on an old disk, if you have trouble
finding anything but later versions...
