Don't forget the whole "cat-whisker", vs. germanium, vs. selenium, vs.
silicon issue. Are there any other materials in use--or formerly in use? Oh
yeah, tubes.  :)  Any others?

Let's also not forget schottky diodes, varactors, bilateral switches,
LASCRs, photo diodes, LEDs, and voltage-controlled zeners, to name a few more.

You might need to get a larger breadboard, and more comfortable chair. This
might take awhile.  :)
