I have installed (lots of) FREDs in vintage hifi amps.
Last year it was an old Fisher KX-90 tube amp.
There was about 5 mV of high-frequency hash in
the output with the old tophat rectifiers, mostly
"inaudible"--with the FREDs it went down to less
than 2 mV. Yes, I would say the damn thing sounded
better too. But don't tell that to a old crusty engineer...
