[sdiy] Microcontroller selection!

Bret,

In my not so humble opinion the word BASIC means it's broke and evil. A lot
depends on usage. If you need a great deal of speed to do something these
will not work. A number of these 'basic' things can only run a few thousand
lines of code a second. Where coding something in assembly or with a good C
compiler can get you a lot more performance out of the chip. Atmels are
great for higher end stuff, PICs for lower end simple bit banging.
