Buchla 111 discrete transistor Ring mod. A friend of mine cloned it and
says it's nice and funky.
Buchla's 285 Ring Mod/Freq Shifter which is based around 1494s. Considering
that those ICs are long out of production, that approach may actually be
more expensive than the vactrol based one.
EMS Synthi Ring mod. Don't have a schemo handy, but if I remember
correctly, it's all discrete transistors too.
