Usually, with a 'tap tempo' delay, it isn't a continual tapping.
It's just two taps to set the tempo.

Whereas, in the case of sequencing software, some have hardware 
allowing you to put in a beat (while watching a video, for example)
and the software fits the midi clock to it.
