Trace widths that I use:

GND - as thick as possible
power - 40-120 mil
long traces - 25 mil
ordinary traces - 15 mil
between SOIC pads - 10 mil
For simple thru-hole PCB I sometimes use 40 mil for all traces.

I often change 15 mil traces into 25 mil when design is over
and there's a place to do it. Thicker is always better (not talking RF here).
