> This synth book project sounds like a great idea. I haven't got a clue about electronics but would like to. I'm a muso not a techie but I recently acquired an old Yamaha CS20M. It was in half when I saw it and with a bit of soldering and stuff it's working great. This made me want to build something of my own but all the books I've looked at are beyond me. I'd like something simple, a learning curve rather than a learning cliff, so good luck with this project.

You better start with a project like the ASM-1 or something. I'm sure you will
get many more hints and tips. There are kits of various complexity, quality and
amount of DIY-aspects in them. You choose how much you want to really do
yourself. Either way you will learn and there is people out here to help you
out.

A friend of mine started of with a Paia Fatman and then went on to projects
requiring even more DIY aspects (like buying components, designing frontplates
etc.). He started from almost literary only knowing which end of the soldering
iron was the hot one and where the solder is applied. He is picking up things
as he goes and I admire his spirit (he has taken several deprechiating
setbacks). But then again, the early days is a bit of an unsteady ride.
There are several people that used the ASM-1 as their entry level (which forces
you into much more DIY work) but I'm happy to report many feel happy they did it
and is encouraged by the things they've learned. I think it comes down to what
type of person you are on how much grease in the tracks you need.

Cheers,
Magnus
