[sdiy] D.C. Level Shifting question

Hi there,

I would like to build two circuits, but, I'm not sure
if they both do the same thing.  The first circuit
would shift all A.C. voltage to D.C. voltage.  The
second circuit would shift only the negative range of
an A.C. voltage into the positive range.  Are these
tasks accomplished the same way, or, I'm I thinking
about two different circuits?  Please excuse my
ignorance, but, can somebody fill me in on what the
common terms for these circuits are in Modular Synth
terms?
