No it is just a way to have cheap, cheaper, cheapest potentiometers for mass
production.
The resistive element gets (silk) printed on the pcb or a custom made
substrate,
while the pcb and/or enclosure take part in the pot mechanics.
Other pot manufactures offer a similar products.
Piher/Megitt (sp?) have a detailed explanation on their site.
Probably not too interesting unless you DIY in series of 1000 and over.
