[sdiy] OT: Ordering from Newark - Taxable?

I apologize if this is too OT, though I suppose it may have something to do with DIY (the procuring parts aspect of it). I'll make it short - I received a notice today from Newark Electronics (a Farnell company) that they don't have a 'tax exemption certificate' for my company and will have to start charging me sales tax if I don't send them one. I don't think I ever said that I had a company (I may have just put my name in the box when I opened the account on the net). Thing is, I'm an individual and I only order parts for my synth project. I thought I'd contact them and tell them I'm just a small-fry individual, but then I thought perhaps they don't intend to sell to individuals, and they only sell to companies?

So, should I tell them I'm an individual without a 'tax exempt' certificate, or just keep my mouth shut and pay the tax if I want to do business with them? Any advice appreciated!!

If this is too OT, please email me off-list.

Thanks,
Scott (who needs to buy some Vactrols from Newark)
