  The primary difference I observe is the 3280's much heftier amplifier
biasing (Iabc=2mA max for 3280 vs. 1mA max for 13700).  This results in 
better SNR through the amplifier.  I know the 13700 has attached buffer 
stages, but I never use those anyway. ;)
