[sdiy] etched PCB failure....

I've had to do this, I would suggest using a magnifier and wet the etches
with solder before placing the wire.  The wire should be tinned first. 
Once the solder is flowing, it's liquid nature will be somewhat cohesive
and help to hold the wire in place.  Get some really small wire if you
don't have any, and a small soldering tip.

It does sound like a PITA, (and it was for me), but I think solder and
wire will work the best in the long run.  Take your time, it's not going
to be a project you'll want to hurry.
