Well there are devices which are called PTC resistors which are not 
linear with temperature. They behave more like a switch going into a 
low resistance when some threshold voltage is reached. Ususally they 
come in a package similar to a tantalum cap. A little drop or disk with 
wires. These are unsuitable.

Platium resistors are often used as temperature sensors, under this category 
they can be found in catalogs.
