Don´t underestimate the cost of a decent case ! This does not only include
some type of metal/wood/plastic whatever box, but also good quality pots,
jacks and knobs. For most of the projects i built, the case was very much more
expensive than the electronics inside.
But if you go with a cheap and probably ugly looking case, you will every time
become angry when you want to use that synth - also everybody having a look at
it will take it more serious if the outsides are well-made.

My Conclusion: A bad sounding module in a modular setup is far less bad than a
ugly-looking one.
