  The key assigner is an Intel 8049 microcontroller running a program 
fixed in mask-ROM.  Korg has long since (in the USA and Japan) run out of 
spares, but one can still be created: Use an Intel 8749 (EPROM version of
the 8049) and program it with the binary file that represents the original 
mask ROM.  I've done this to replace a couple dead MCUs.

  Note: this particular Korg/8049 key assigner is used in both the 
mono/poly and the polysix.
