You don't need to, Though it would definitely be fun trying. Resistors can
be trimmed by filing up to the value you want. It takes a bit of practice
and care but it works and it's often convenient. Many years ago, some may
remember I made a tutorial on how to do this. It's now back up on my web
site (Somewhere. you'll have to do a bit of hunting. I don't do a lot of
html these days because I hate it.) Works best with carbon film but can
work with certain stocks of metal films. Somewhere below 5K are trimmable
but above 10K your mileage may vary.

Once upon a time, this kind of thing use to be common practice but it's
become a lost art. There was some controversy when I put this up the first
time round from people who just couldn't deal with it for some reason. So
if you visit the site, deal with it as you see fit. Just don't try and
re-educate me in kosha electronic practices like one looser took it upon
himself to do.

Roman, I know you love SMD and I have to say I've never tried this with SMD
but it still probably works, you just need a smaller file. I'm yet to catch
up with the rest of the world with this new fangled electronics stuff.

Hope this helps.
