This is exactly what you should expect. Yep....vactrols are slow reacting.
Most would never consider them for a VCA for this reason...but this is their
beauty. With slow, they are smooth and buttery. I would not suggest that
any synth should be without standard gates as well. but with the Low pass
along side it gives you terrific options.
If any of you have ever heard or enjoed Mort Subotnick's Until Spring or Sky
of Cloudless Sulfer and have tried (inv ain) to recapture 'that' percussive
ringing - without a low pass gate, give it up. You're gonna get something
but it's not going to be a lot harsher and won't have that wonderful natural
ring.
How this for a deal:
to JH and any others...invest the $28 and see for yourself. If you really
hate it, I'll buy it from you at $1.30 on the dollar.

I'm totally serious though. I could see me having six of these things with
