Unfortunately, this does not work that well for kick drums. The
frequency has to be quite low, and therfore it is difficult to ensure
that your oscillating filter's output is starting at the right point.
What you end up with is odd clicks and soft attacks sort at random in
your drum pattern. You need to do what the TR909 did and reset the VCO
every trigger. This way you can be sure your VCO will start at the same
point every trigger.
You could get your filter to ring gently, just below self osciallation,,
and then whack the audio input with a trigger signal. This works sort
of.
