This sort of damage is particularly bad on front panels made with a
plastic laminate. I managed to get a large bag of washers that fitted
wonderfully for sub-min switches. I think I got it at my local B&Q
(Large chain of DIY stores in the UK). The problem was that the metal
they used to make the washers was of variable quality. It wasn't really
designed for front panels after all. So I selected the nicest ones and
used those.

So I suppose what you need to do is ring a few engineering hardware
suppliers and see what they have. I never found any joy from the usual
Electronic supplies places.

On Scheaffer panels I tighten the nut on the back of the panel. Usually
only a quarter turn is needed. I wouldn't use glue of any form.
