This was discussed on AH a while back.. Here's a post from Mike Peake about the
nightmare that was the Nanotracker:

I happened to be at work today and saw this, so from the horse's mouth:
Nanotracker no more. BTW, it was a PCM CIA card slot, not a floppy
drive. I ran the Beta test team for the NT, and due to incapable
outside programmers, it was killed. They really screwed up in their
attempts at programming. I'd love to share details but that wouldn't
be corporately correct.

We had spec'd out something larger than an MMT32, but marketing
decided that it had to have several options tacked on to make it
desirable, and as a result, it became too expensive and was killed.
They wanted it to control ADATs, etc. in addition to sequencing.
We tried to slim it down and presented it again, but all the problems
we were having with the NanoTracker soured them too deeply to
okay it's development (and we don't have the spare time to do
it alone).

Thanks. The above about the NT is exact. And the going joke was that
in the time it was taking them to work on the NT, any one of us could
have learned code and done it ourselves.

Easier,
