[sdiy] Minimoog EG power question

I've built a Minimoog VCF and VCA using the schematics from the service
manual. I've got a commercial +/15V linear power supply, and made a
+/-10V power supply on the VCF/VCA board that runs off the 15V power. I
am now starting on the envelope generators. These are powered by a
voltage follower (+15V unregulated into the collector, +10V regulated to
the base, giving +9.3V at the emitter) which the service manual explains
is needed because of 10ma charging spikes for the 10uF timing caps. I
don't think I want to foul up my clean 15V power with these charging
spikes.
Can I instead add a nice large capacitor on the EG board to buffer the
10V power and use that directly? Anyone built or breadboarded the
Mini's EGs and have an idea why the voltage follower was used instead?
