I've done some stuff with jacobs ladders before, including using one
on stage and sparking it by hitting the electrodes with plastic wand.
I always wanted to try to build one with electrodes in a double helix
type configuration to make arc spiral around, but never got around to
it.

It might work to drive it from an amplifier, but remember it's
expecting an input of 120 volts. (at least stateside, 240 in EU)
Driven with less, it's not going to want to make sparks as long.

Also, an amp with a couple hundred watts output at least would be a
very good idea, the arc is going to draw that probably.
