Actually, we decided to use 60Hz in the U.S. of A because we knew someday it
would help make these really neat synchronous motors that would end up
powering Hammond organs and alarm clocks...
Of course, if you don't like Hammond organs or alarm clocks, then we're
pretty much evil.
