I'm new to the list and just wanted to say hi.  For the last couple of years
I've been writing firmware for portable MP3 players, and before that I
worked on various things at Crystal Semiconductor.  At Crystal I started out
as an applications engineer for audio codecs then moved on to apps for synth
products (Crystal/Dream wavetable & a Crystal single-chip wavetable).  I
designed sound cards and developed a few samples for the single-chip synth.
After that I moved on to firmware development for the Crystal PCI audio
accelerators and worked on the kernel, various little DSP algorithms, and
converted a proprietary wavetable synth to DLS.  After that I did the
management thing for about 6-8 months then came to SigmaTel.

I'm not really a hobbyist so I'll probably just be a lurker and soak up the
interesting conversation.
