Well, in some ways it's a little early for full evaluation: I don't have
Mikado yet, and I haven't taken it to any gigs.. but I did take it to a
friend's house, and have been doing some patching, so I have some
preliminary impressions:
1) <sigh> it's still awfully heavy. I don't have Mikado in it yet, and I
can move it by myself, but just barely. The two handles I put on are
convenient for one-person lifting, but awkward for two. I may put handles
on the top and front for two-person moving.
2) The angles between the two faces causes a bit of a problem: cords in the
top face can get in the way of cords in the lower face, when using jacks
close to the vertex of the two faces. This was not entirely unexpected.
I've put in one blank panel at the top of the lower face, and this helps.
3) The angle of the faces also means that patchcords in that area will be
tremendously dense. I built a patch on the Fenix the other day using my
"normal" cords (2-foot Hirschmanns), and it was a mess.. the area where
Mikado will go was filled with overhanging patch cords. Yesterday I did a
similar patch using only 12" Pomona cords (plus a few longers) and it was
much more manageable. This means I'll need to be careful about building my
patches: I need to use the shortest cords possible at all times.
4) I'm a little worried about the durability of the cover, especially its
edge. The guy who built it for me suggested using metal channel to
strengthen it, and I wish I had. No damage yet, but there could be in the
future.
Other than that I'm thrilled with it.
