[sdiy] gate/trigger

Could some kind soul could explain the difference between a gate and a
trigger for me - I'm assuming they're not the same thing.

Would I be right in thinking that a trigger would be a pulse generated when
a key was hit, while a gate would perhaps go 'on' when a key was pressed and
then go 'off' again when the key was released?
