the original battery is indeed ni-cad, but the fix that was originally
referred to uses a lithium battery as a replacement.  You just have to
disable the charging system, because trying to recharge the li-ion
battery could be worse than the ni-cad leaking.  I used old-crows fix
on mine.  the battery should last for many many years, and I don't
have to worry about it leaking again like a replacement ni-cad could
do.
