This refers to musicians detecting non-simultaneity in piano chords. The 
original reference, if you want to see, is L. M. Vernon, Synchronization of 
chords in artistic piano music, Ia. St. Mus., IV, pp. 306-345, 1937, quoted 
in C. E. Seashore, "Psychology of Music", Dover, 1967, p. 261.

I chose this result particularly because the conditions appeared relevant 
to the present discussion.
