I don't have a Mackie, but had something similar happened with my
Soundcraft.... If you have inserts on your subgroups, try plugging
something in to it repeatedly to knock the tarnish off.
Apparently I had some crud in the normally-closed contacts in my subgroup
insert (that I hardly ever use) and working them a little with a cable
fixed it right up. I suppose I should open it up and clean it properly,
but I have plenty of projects already :)
I don't know the signal path in the Mackie, but perhaps your "assign to
mix" is prefader? If so, maybe the fader died... or a broken solder joint
at the fader?
Otherwise, its probably time to run a test tone into the board and start
probing with your scope. I bet you can find the schematics for that thing
online... or at least get them from Mackie.
