Rob, Also consider the Oakley MIDIdac2. Tony Allgood (UK) sells these PCBs,
not full kits. But, you buy the parts and it all ends up the same. I
mention this specifically because it sounds as if you are planning a larger
format MOTM panel layout. Tony does make his PCBs MOTM compatible in terms
of component spacing. And, (shameless self-interest plug here) I can sell
you a front panel for the Oakley MIDIdac2 that was designed to match the
MOTM panels and integrate into that size format. In fact, we offer 14
different painted and screened front panels for MOTM format builders to
mount Oakley products and modify and mount their Blacet modules. Dave
Bradley and I offer these under the name "Stooge Panels." we paint and
print about every 4 months. And, Tony probably has a MIDIdac panel front
layout for Schaefer in Europe (Germany?). Of course, ours match official
MOTM better. :)

P.S. I just finished a Blacet Miniwave mounted behind a Stooge Panel. The
Miniwave is one awesome module. The best of the Blacet line I have tried.
But I (like most MOTMers) cannot stand the Blacet / PAiA frac rack format.
Here is a photo tour of the large format conversion for those interested.

I am currently completely rebuilding in a new case, with an extra vco
and some other modules, new front plates with a redesigned layout, new
better pots, no more 741's, large switchcraft jacks instead of cheap 3.5 mm
jacks, new MOTM style knobs (can you guess what my next project will be?)
etc etc).
Like I said I don't know anything about digital electronics, so I would like
an 'easy' kit, of course with a lot of functionality, but also not too
expensive. Browsing the web I found a couple of possible options, and what
looks best to me now, I think, is the paia midi2cv8
(http://www.paia.com/midi2cv.htm). Did anyone on the list build this kit?
Does it work ok? Any problems? Any reasons why it wouldn't work for the
Formant? Any other reasons why I should not pick this kit but something
else?
Any advice would be highly appreciated,
