Well, broke down and bought the pic16F87x ICD debugger/devkit.. $189 at
Digikey, once again, a great company that really pulled through to find my
package and make sure it got sent out Fedex Saturday delivery so I could get
hot on progging this weekend! ;)
A few things I noticed that had me somewhat dissapointed:
1) you lose a couple of stack allocations
2) you lose a couple of timers (wth?)
3) you lose a couple of io pins (okay)
4) you lose some memory allocations so that they can be used by the internal
ICD register mirroring. (ok)
The timers really annoy me though.. Dammit... Those would have been really
handy!
Then, to top it all off, there is an errata sheet that goes a bit like this:
"Don't even try to use any timer other than TMR0, cuz the other timers are
kookoo"
Why oh why don't they tell you this stuff ahead of time? Ah well.. :)
Where else can you get full 20mhz emulation, UART, 10 bit A/Ds, >22 io pins,
etc etc for under $200? Gets pretty tough...
Ill let you know any other nasties I come across as I go..
Rob
