I used the View Logic package owned by our company (well hell... it was for
them anyway...)
I used schematic entry. I designed a logic circuit in discrete, then talked the
customer (our company and our partner) to go with the FPGA. There was some
learning curve for me... but I'm sold.
The simulations can lie... just like spice !!! Some techniques that would work
with discrete logic will NOT work in an FPGA. Asyncronous design is a
dangerous thing !!!
I'm looking for what I can deal with at home. I just KNOW that an SPLD
(PAL, GAL whatever) is the perfect device for the LED display driver I need
for my theremin project. But I need to learn the languages, and get the ability
to compile and program.
Oh yeah... for cheap. Free is even better.... ;^)
