[sdiy] Oscillating VCFs

Good afternoon,
    I am still on the groundfloor of synth design and construction, but this
talk of filter self-oscillation is perplexing me. What components exist in
the filter to cause this self-oscillation? And what exactly IS the
self-oscillation, or better, what does it sound like and is it recreatible
on a simple monosynth such as the Moog Rogue? Thanks for entertaining a
simple question from a simple man.
