The MAT02 is of exactly the same design as the LM394 and also has these 'BE
diodes'.  Comparing data sheets shows both transistors have very similar
characteristics.  The only difference I spotted was that the MAT02 data
sheet states that it has a low bulk 'Rbe'.  The data sheet for the LM394
doesn't refer to this.  The MAT02 is newer and may be better.  However, I've
found LM394s work well.
