To further clarify this -- I chose a low-noise transistor approach because
I *hoped* it would give improved noise performance. I never confirmed
this. In fact, the gain of the circuit is so high that there is quite a bit
of noise anyway.

Recently I tried to make a low-noise preamp using the LM394 super
transistor as in the NS app notes. I could not get it to work as well as a
low noise op amp (OP27). So if I were to make a filter bank today I would
probably use something like the OPA4227 or LT1125. These are quad versions
of improved OP27 devices.

I agree. Give him the benefit of having the same privilege as he would have
under current law. It's the RIGHT THING TO DO.

What is particularly annoying about the current thread is the people who
are, effectively, accusing Bernie of being selfish for wanting to continue
to make money from his material. I saw -- directly, with my own eyes --
the incredible amount of work that went into producing the newsletter, and
I was always amazed at the very low subscription cost. In my view, it's
people who insist on getting something for nothing who are the selfish ones.
