from a hardware point of view it offers one benefit, no software.

AVR/PIC stuff might seem very daunting, The monowave was my second AVR
project, it took me less than 3 months to get the first version of the OS
fully working... Ok, since then its come on quite someway and Ive moved to C
instead of assembler..
But Assembler for simple things, such as Midi/CV is not that daunting..
