Perhaps someone can clarify my understanding?

In the case of a paid magazine article, copyright is transferred to the
magazine for publication? If the magazine then closes, does the copyright
automatically transfer back to the author?

Or is copyright not transferable at all and publication is licensed?

The reason I ask is that I would like to republish some copies of the ARP
2600 owners manual. I think the copyright issues would apply to companies as
well as magazines?

If anyone knows the author of the 2600 manual, could you please put me in
touch?
