I found the same problem with his email...

Anyway, see my FatMan website about mods.

There is a mod that extends the low end of the FatMan's VCO range. There
is some (for lack of a better term) idiot proofing designed in that is
easily disabled or modified. This is to prevent the "no output"
condition should pots be set all the way down. These same "protections"
also limit things like the bottom end of the VCO range and the bottom end
of the VCF range.

I don't find noise an objectionable problem in the FatMan (I have 2), but
I am also not an "audiophile" either. If "noise" is when you have no
active notes playing and you turn the output all the way up and listen
with your amp maxed out, yes, there is some noise. However, if "noise"
cannot be heard even on soft passages, I would say, I can't hear noise.
I have commercial digital synths that have more noise that you can hear
during playing than the FatMan does.

YMMV.

I have a clip where the bassline is done by a modified FatMan:

http://home.earthlink.net/~chordman/sg11052001a.mp3

This clip does have a small amount of noise in it. It is not apparent
while the piece is playing, only at the silence in the start and end.
However, the noise is NOT from the FatMan, rather after recording this, I
discovered that I have a super noisy channel on my mixer. I post this
clip here so that you can listen to what it a FatMan can sound like in a
mix. Only the repetitive bassline is done by the FatMan, but this part
is prominent throughout the piece. The rest is Roland D-110 & U-110, and
a Korg WaveStation.
