Hi David..yes that sounds like a good possibility for labelling.
On a similar theme..I was wondering if anyone has tried using
an x-y flatbed plotter to create artwork directly onto front panels?
I doubt if this is a new idea..and certainly the idea of using plotters to create
PCB's is also well documented. I guess the problem with the direct plotting method
is finding something like an acrylic pen/paint pen of sufficient resolution to produce decent legend. Maybe if it worked the finish might be a bit like silk-screening?
I have an x-y A3 plotter that I sometimes use to make pcb's. Typically I use a
plotter pen with permanent oiled based black ink. These may be ok for front panel legend
(the pens have 0.3mm tips) as long as you put a coat of lacquer over the finished panel.
Anyway if anyone on the list has any experience of trying this method..I would be intereseted to hear about your results.
cheers

Subject: [sdiy] front panel labelling idea
hey all,
An idea was put to me today to do one off front panels which might interest some of you guys.
Use a vinyl printer to print an artwork onto vinyl. These printers are very common in the sign writing industry, and are capible of high quality resaults. I couldn't see a sign writer charging too much to print a couple of small stickers, and the resaults would be very hard wearing, as the ink is thermally fused to the plastic vinyl sticker. What more the vinyl is available in different colours, including clear......
interestingly enough, these sort of printers as well as computer controlled engravers, and high end printers are the other trade of synth company roland.
