[sdiy] more backlighting questions

I've now gotten to the point where it's pretty certain the backlight retrofit
will work, but now I'm trying to decide...LED or EL?

Right now the pros and cons I can think of are:

LED
pro: Cheap, I have tons of them, and they're easy to drive (just a current
limiting resistor needed)
con:Will need to be molded inside silicone or similar clear adhesive material
in order to make an easily removable backlight panel or require lightguide
for side-mounted LED's

EL
pro: very thin, can be cut to size possibly, uniform illumination without
diffuser, no silicon, thus no muss no fuss.
con: Need to be driven with 200hz-1Khz at 100 or 200V, shorter lifetime
(though still long enough for any amount of playing I'm likely to do >
2000hrs.) Biggest possible issue: interference caused in audio path of synth
by switching dc-dc converter.

I'm thinking of trying to go EL right now, but does anybody have any more
ideas/opinions/suggestions/other possible issues that might arise, before I
go any further with this?
