Is "beating" the more basic question behind that?
We once had a discussion that electronic beating is unique in
some sense, because it allows for perfect cancelation.
Such a case will (almost) never come up in acoustic
environments, as long as they have two or more dimensions.
Inside a long tube (one dimensional) perfect cancelation
could happen, too.

Mixing two voices -> reverb

should sound different from

voice -> reverb -> mix
voice -> reverb /

I must try that at home.

I think this deep cancelation ("phasing") makes a good part of
the so called "sterile electronic" sound.

Comming back to your original question, it would be interesting
if the severall osc. of one voice could be routed to different
busses.
