I bought a broken 808 and restored it last year. Cosmetically, It was
missing several knob caps and the screws were a bit scarred. Other than
that, it just needed the pots cleaned and the power supply needed some wires
re-soldered.
One thing that helped a lot was the purchase of a CR-8000 for $50 on ebay.
The CR-8000 has a lot of the same parts as the TR-808, especially the knobs
and screws and they can be found cheap.
Likewise, the TR-909 knobs are identical to those on the TR707/727.
