For what it's worth, I wouldn't probe IC chips and delicate semiconductors with
a typical continuity tester either. On the other hand, I should add that I'm
not really sure what the original poster actually meant when he referred to a
"buzz box". Like you, I would expect that he was referring to a continuity
tester, but I can't be sure.
