Of course, it will be a digital delay unit!
However, it will be a special variety that provides that unique all-tube BBD
sound (whatever that is) that "normal" digital delay lines don't offer. So it's
really a digital delay with physical modeling added to simulate all those
missing tube BBD stages. A deluxe variation on this theme could even use actual
tubes for the input and output signal stages, perhaps even using tube-based
digital converters.
Harry, it might seem silly to you, but trust me. If you actually built
something like this, there are always "those people" who would beat a path to
your door, in order to purchase them for astronomically high prices. Strange,
but true.
Personally, I just like the devious creativity incorporated in the idea. :)
