An other option is to use a aluminum profile like those used to make some
19" housings.
See Farnel or other catalog for examples.
Other suppliers (like Conrad or Isel) sell similar profiles per meter.

Instead of pre-drilled mounting strip inserts use 'slide-nuts'
(glide-nut?) (square instead of 6 sided)
Now you can move your taped holes around ;)

The profiles and "slide nuts" are made for each other,
the mounting strips are merely a row of "slide nuts" 'glued' together.
But as usual;
mounting strip=expensive => more margin => don't sell the 'slide nuts'
