So, I finally decided that I wouldnt be happy until my Moog understood
Midi. I decided to try the Synhouse MoogieJack.
The board itself is real well made, good quality w/surface mount componants.
They do nice things like include templates for boring holes in your classic
Synth. The Moogiejack is the Moog-special version of the MidiJack with
things like 0.0v = F unstead of C and the like.
So, before I get to my question for the morning, my observations on the
MoogieJack.
1. No printed docs. The docs arrived on CD. They are rather vague on things
like proper supply voltage ( specifies 12vdc in but makes comments about
handling up to 30 ). No specific instructions for the Minimoog. I really
dont think it liked being hung off the 20vdc unregulated supply pole which
after reading the installation instructions for every synth in the list
seemed to be the best place to land it since the regulated was 10vdc and thats
too low.
Anyway, I'm sure someone with more patience can easily make one work and
it certainly is small.
To my question...
I want to build an external Midi->CV. I really dont wanna bore holes in my
baby and bought an internal mod in a moment of lunacy. The two things I
of course worry about are 1.2V/Oct and 0.0v = F. I'm leaning towards
the PAIA unit simply because source is available for the PROM and its
easily hackable 8031 code. Anyone else have suggestions for one?
I know I'll have to do a little hacking to make the keyboard disconnect
so I dont get CV droop, but I can almost deal with that... Especially since
I can do it without any perm mods.
Thanks!
